Townsville comedy has been pretty amazing lately. It’s incredibly sad to see my good friend and excellent comic Henry Bretz leave the city and country for new adventures, the final gig at Molly Malone’s two weeks ago was legendary.

Hanry founded and ran Cocktail Comedy at the Osk Bar, and Indy C was apprehensive about hosting it last week without him, She did a great job (as usual) and Cocktail comedy was an excellent night (as usual)

Next week we’ll have a couple of highlights. Comedy at the Empire Hotel is now on Thursday nights (the alternate ones from Molly’s) and, like Molly’s nights, it’s an opn mic that newcomers can actually win prizes at. I always enjoy the loose and lively atmosphere at the Empire.

Fresno Espresso & Wine Bar in the city also run a comedy night, a curated event like the ones at Osk, and I was lucky enough to do their very first one. It was a lot of fun, an intimate night of mirth with the clientele and staff of a small venue who are purveyors of excellent alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.

There’s other exciting stuff coming soon that I can’t disclose yet. There’s be a show at Magnetic Island, and a renowned international comedy star coming to Townsville. Watch this space. There’ll be a lot to see!
