I believe we’re entering a new era of comedy in Townsville and one of the signs of this bold new age is a couple of exciting new comedy rooms here. One of them is an open mic at the newly refurbished Empire Hotel in South Townsville. I’ll tell you more about that in time for the next one.
Tomorrow night – Tuesday 7th of March – is the debut of an exciting new comedy event. The Osk Bar is one of the classiest and best places in Townsville to enjoy a well-crafted cocktail. They’re right down on The Strand at Gregory Street and they’re now hosting what’s going to be an exciting and enjoyable regular comedy event.

Cocktail Comedy is a curated night of comedy, with specially chosen comedians doing longer sets than you’d typically see at an open mic night. You can expect a high standard of performer as well as deeper and more satisfying performances in a classy and intimate environment.
Cocktail Comedy is something we, as local comics, really wanted to see here. It’s also the kind of comedy night we, as audience members would want to enjoy.
We have high hopes for this night, and we’re kicking it off with an evening hosted by Henry Bretz and with performances from Patrick Houghton, Indy C and Sharon “Shazza” Solomon. If you follow the Townsville comedy scene (and if you don’t, why the hell not?) you’ll know that these comics are some of the best and most entertaining comedians in North Queensland.
Oh and by the way…. completely free!
Annoyingly, I won’t be able to come to the first one because I’ll be doing an online gig… but there’s still hope for you! And did I mention, it’s free?

[…] first evening of Cocktail Comedy this month was a success and enjoyed by everyone who participated. I wrote about what an exciting idea this is, and so glad to see our newest stand up event is rapidly becoming a crown jewel in the NQ […]
